Forgiveness Forged in Blood

It’s been a bad week.  I won’t bore you with the eight hundred annoying, frustrating and hurtful things that happened but I will tell you this:  I spend a lot of time thinking about forgiveness.  I mull over when to forgive, when to forget but most of all, when to stop being angry.  And I will tell you another little something.   I think the resident cat bore the brunt of my crummy week, especially after she spilled my coffee and broke my favorite taupe coffee mug.

In truth, I projected my hatred of the universe’s mucked up, painful plan onto a feline named Yoda.  Yes, of course, she would be named Yoda. ( If I were sending you an email about this life lesson, there would definitely be a winking smiley face after that sentence.)  You see, I was enjoying an afternoon nap.  Okay, let’s be honest.  It was 2pm and I was still groggy from too much Gallo White Zinfandel and Benadryl.  Moving on.

My sleep was disturbed by a nervously, accelerated cheep and when I looked up I saw Yoda with a pudgy little bird nestled between her teeth.  It is with great regret that I cannot tell you, with 100% certainty, the species of said bird, but after checking my field guide, I suspect it was some kind of Chickadee.  What I can tell you with certainty is that tiny little bird wrangled itself free from Yoda and hid under my desk.

I was forced to act swiftly.  Using only a cd case and large blue cup, I accomplished my haphazard rescue mission.  Once outside, the bird managed to fly away punctured but, in my mind, not broken.  I reasoned as long as it could fly, the little Chickadee would be okay.  Afterwards, Yoda is cautious of me, mostly because I released her prey.  I can no longer recall my anger and I scratch her tiny head to tell her thank you.  She purrs softly.  This forgiveness, it was forged in blood.

That little bird has one hell of a story to tell…

Indeed, forgiveness is forged in our own blood, the blood of discovery.

    Nicely done, my friend!
